If you suffer from heavy periods, you are not alone. There is actually a name for this type of condition. It is called Menorrhagia. There can be fluctuations in the amount of bleeding from one woman to the next, but for some women the bleeding and cramping would be enough to cause an interruption in their lives each month. If you do, in fact, have Menorrhagia, then there are a number of different causes as well as different treatments depending on the cause. Persistent urinary tract infections (UTI) or UTI-like symptoms may be an indication of bladder cancer or the potential for bladder cancer. It depends on the type of symptoms, how long you have had them and if there is pain involved.

Endometrial cancer develops from abnormal cellular growth in the inner lining of the uterus and accounts for the majority of uterine cancer cases. It is typically diagnosed in women 50 and older. When diagnosed at an early stage before it spreads outside the uterus, endometrial cancer can be successfully treated using minimally invasive methods.

GCPS is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Ruth Stephenson to our staff. Dr. Stephenson has an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from the Rochester Institute of Technology and her medical degree from NYCOM. She completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency at Saint Barnabas Medical Center where she was trained and mentored by Drs. Denehy and Taylor. She then completed her fellowship training in Gynecologic Oncology at the University of California-Davis and has returned to New Jersey to join her mentors.
Throughout her training she has participated in both clinical and basic science research and spent a year in a nanotechnology lab investigating novel therapeutics for ovarian cancer. She performs specialized procedures in minimally invasive surgery, including robotic surgery for appropriate patients with gynecologic cancers or complex gynecologic conditions. She also has an interest in health and wellness counseling and education for patients undergoing cancer therapy. Learn more about Dr.Stephenson here.
GCPS is pleased to announce the addition of Marisa Hamrah, A.P.N., C to our staff as a licensed nurse practitioner helping to broaden the continuum of care for our established gynecologic patients. With her enthusiasm and 10 years of expertise in Women’s Health, she is assisting Dr. Thad Denehy and Dr. Robert Taylor in the management of their patients.
